Mini Dress

During this project I had the opportunity to make a mini dress in muslin fabic and denim with manipulation. My process with creating my design first started with playing with draping the muslin fabric to make 5 concepts. This was a very interesting and challenging process to come up with different designs without sketching first, but with doing this it allows for more complete thoughts.

To focus first on my inspiration, I would like to point out all the curvature lines within the tree. This is where my idea had originally come from. As you can notice there are a lot of un-structured lines, swerving and swirling. I tried to recreate that look my dress. This goes into the texture of the dress. There are many parts that catch your eye and there is a lot to look at, but I feel like it all ties in together, jut like my inspiration.

Then I transitioned to my sewing process. Hand Sewing is definitely not my expertise and definitely something I need to improve on. Sewing my dress was a long experience since I had so many details that needed to me tied down.

The hardest thing by for was the denim samples. It took a lot of time to figure out what I wanted to do and what I could do. I played around with different materials for hours just to makeup a few possible ideas. I did end up with quite a few samples, so then I had to figure out where to put what on my dress.

My process was really triral and error I would try something and see if would work out or not, and if not I would try again with something different. This project was very challenging on the mind and it really pushed my boundaries, but it was super fun to explore.
